The application process
Application
A project usually starts with a request for assistance from a municipality or partner organization abroad. Sometimes we also take the initiative ourselves if we receive signals about urgent needs.
Proposal and Advice
Our project coordinators compile the information and formulate a proposal. An extension of an ongoing project is also prepared in this way.
Decision
The proposal is discussed in our board meeting.
Agreement
Upon approval, clear agreements are established for one year. This not only concerns the amount, but also reporting, transparency, and mutual communication.
Implementation and Support
The financial support is disbursed in installments. Throughout the year, we monitor progress through reports and working visits.
Evaluation
We review what has been achieved, how the money has been spent, and whether the partner can continue independently. If necessary, we extend the support with a new agreement.
What do we assess in a project?
When an application is received, we ask five key questions:
- Is the project supported by the church? Does it have a diaconal or pastoral character?
- What is the organizational quality? Is there good staff, a local network, and transparent reporting?
- What is the financial position? Is the project sustainable? What is our contribution compared to other stakeholders?
- What is the governance and policy? Are the goals clear, and is the policy realistic and Biblically sound?
- What is the long-term perspective? Will the local community be strengthened in its independence?
